Exciting news is unfolding at Robbie’s House! Debra Hinkel has been approached by Matthew Green, a talented playwright, about creating a powerful new play based on her story. This production will explore the deeply complex and emotional journey following the police-involved killing of her son, Robbie Ramirez, in 2018.
With support from the Mellon Foundation’s ‘Re-Storying the West’ grant, this play will delve into Debra’s quest for justice, her unwavering support for law enforcement, and the disenfranchised grief that so many face but few openly discuss. What makes this project especially unique is that it will be based on verbatim-text interviews with Debra, ensuring that her words and emotions are authentically represented.
A Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team
This production has already attracted incredible talent from Hollywood and beyond. The play will star Amy Chafee (from Deadpool & Wolverine) and Henny Russell (from Orange is the New Black), bringing national attention to this important story. Backed by a team of University of Wyoming creatives and industry professionals, the play is set to be a moving and thought-provoking experience.
Why This Play Matters
At Robbie’s House, we know how important it is to share stories, foster understanding, and create spaces for healing. This play is more than just a performance—it’s an opportunity to amplify the voices of those affected by systemic issues, humanize grief and resilience, and spark meaningful conversations about justice, community, and mental health. We can’t wait to see how far this project goes and the impact it will have. Stay tuned for more updates as this incredible production takes shape!
